Artist Background:

Dorothy Ashby was a pioneering jazz harpist whose innovative approach to the instrument helped bridge the gap between jazz, soul, and funk. Born in Detroit, she gained recognition for her work in the 1960s and 1970s, blending African rhythms with jazz harmonies. Despite her untimely death in 1986, her influence has endured, with her music being sampled by hip-hop legends like J Dilla, Kendrick Lamar, and Flying Lotus.
