Description
Undercurrent is a 1962 duet album by pianist Bill Evans and guitarist Jim Hall, suited to listeners who enjoy intimate, thoughtful instrumental performances. This one-disc release features digitally remastered recordings made in New York.
The album centres on a quiet musical dialogue between piano and guitar, with standards given a reflective, noirish feel. Its spare duet approach sets it apart from arrangements built around a full rhythm section.
Standout performances include “My Funny Valentine”, where Evans and Hall exchange increasingly spirited lines, alongside the blues-tinged “I'm Getting Sentimental Over You” and the reflective “Romain”.
