The Wizard of the Kremlin [DVD]

Set in Russia during the chaotic early 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union, this film chronicles the rise of Vadim Baranov. Starting as an artist, he transitions into a reality TV producer before becoming the powerful spin doctor for a rising KGB agent, Vladimir Putin. Baranov operates at the heart of power, fundamentally shaping the new Russia by manipulating the lines between truth and falsehood, belief and control. His dangerous game is only complicated by the magnetic Ksenia, who remains beyond his influence. Years later, having retreated into silence, Baranov finally reveals the dark secrets of the regime he helped construct.

Directed by Olivier Assayas (known for Personal Shopper and Clouds of Sils Maria), the film is based on the bestselling novel of the same name.
