The Alpinist (2021) - Documentary [Blu-ray]

As the sport of climbing transitions from a niche pursuit to a mainstream media phenomenon, Marc-André Leclerc carves a solitary path far from the spotlight. On remote alpine faces, the free-spirited 23-year-old achieves some of the boldest solo ascents in history—without cameras, ropes, or room for error. His climbs embody the pure essence of adventure. Intrigued by Marc-André’s quiet mastery, veteran filmmaker Peter Mortimer (The Dawn Wall) sets out to document his journey. But the elusive Canadian climber, who owns no phone or car and shuns publicity, resists the intrusion of film crews into his intimate relationship with climbing. As Mortimer struggles to keep pace, Marc-André’s ascents grow increasingly ambitious. Revered by elite climbers and a source of concern for others, he ultimately embarks on a historic solo expedition in Patagonia that redefines the limits of alpine climbing. THE ALPINIST is a powerful portrait of a visionary who follows his passion against all odds.
