Samuel Beckett & Trevor Baca: Stirrings Still

Experience 'Stirrings Still,' Samuel Beckett's profound final prose work, brought to life through a unique collaboration with composer Trevor Baca and performed by the JACK Quartet. This recording presents Beckett's 1987 text, a contemplative monologue on the threshold of existence, interwoven with original music conceived specifically for this release.

Beckett, a known admirer of Schubert's musicality, infused his own writing with a rhythmic and structural elegance. 'Stirrings Still' exemplifies this, functioning as a composition of intricate developments and refrains. Trevor Baca's score acts not as a mere accompaniment, but as a parallel sonic stream, alternating with Beckett's words to deepen their resonance and meaning. The JACK Quartet's performance draws the listener into this layered experience, enhancing the text's introspective power.

Recorded in 2023 and 2024, this project was overseen by producer Manfred Eicher, whose long-standing fascination with the musicality inherent in Beckett's writing is evident throughout the recording.
