Album Significance:
Influenced by both 1960s girl group harmonies and 1980s synthesizer experimentation, It's Alright (I See Rainbows) captures Ono at a unique creative juncture. The album navigates themes of grief, resilience, and the drive to continue her artistic and maternal missions. Rolling Stone described it as "adventurous… lush… committed and convincing avant-gardism." Ono herself reflected in 1992 that in 1982, "it seemed as though I was finally in sync with the world." The album's emotional arc moves from tracks like "Loneliness" and "Spec of Dust," which convey profound sadness, to the uplifting pop sensibilities of "Let the Tears Dry" and the title track, "It's Alright."

Artist's Perspective:
Ono described the album in 1983 as a personal diary, sharing universal emotions: "I’ve got the same kind of emotions that you’ve probably got too, and here I am saying hello…" She recounted a period of deep sadness around December, only to find uplift, partly inspired by her son Sean Lennon, who she said, "Wake up, wake up, mommy." This moment of awakening led to the album's themes of dreaming love and seeing rainbows. Sean Lennon, in a 2025 interview, spoke of his mother's ability to transform negative energy into creative output, stating, "She always said that she would take that negative energy and turn it into something productive and creative… It never stopped her from creating and putting herself out there."
