Franz Liszt - Dante Symphony [CD]

This classical CD pairs Franz Liszt’s Dante Symphony with John Adams’ orchestration of La Lugubre Gondola II. Performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège under Gergely Madaras, it suits listeners drawn to Romantic orchestral music and its modern interpretations.

Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, the symphony moves from the turmoil of Inferno through the serenity of Purgatorio to a choral Magnificat, and this recording also includes Liszt’s original conclusion. The programme closes with Adams’ orchestration of Liszt’s visionary La Lugubre Gondola II.
