Elvin Jones - Dear John C. [Vinyl]

Dear John C. is Elvin Jones’s first album as a full-fledged leader for Impulse!, recorded in 1965. This vinyl edition is mastered from the original analogue tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.

Jones, the drummer known for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet, leads sessions featuring alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano, pianists Roland Hanna and Hank Jones, and bassist Richard Davis. The album looks ahead to Jones’s exploratory vision while paying tribute to his musical roots.

Its programme moves between pop standards such as “Feeling Good” and “Everything Happens to Me” and compositions by Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. The title track honours Jones’s celebrated collaborator John Coltrane; the record is packaged in a tip-on gatefold jacket.
