Thomas Dollbaum, the authentic storyteller of the current indie-rock scene, delivers his most powerful and dynamic work yet with Birds of Paradise. Hailing from Tampa and based in New Orleans, this album serves as a poignant farewell to lost loved ones and past selves, seeking acceptance within ephemeral settings like the pine forests of Florida and the country roads leading to I-95.
While influences from alternative country predecessors like Townes and Molina are present, Dollbaum breaks free on Birds of Paradise, solidifying his true identity. After previous EPs like Wellswood (2022) and Drive All Night (2025), this full-length album was written with urgency over three months, capturing a long-awaited sonic revelation.
Recording ProcessFrustrated by delays on previous projects, Dollbaum channeled his feelings about the world's constant change into this urgent recording. He collaborated with trusted musicians Nick Corson, Josh Halper, and Jake Lenderman, recording the album in just four days at dial back sound studio in Water Valley, Mississippi, with producer and engineer Clay one one. This session captured a magical, decisive moment in Dollbaum's career.
Birds of Paradise is a vibrant and haunting collection of songs, marking a significant turning point for the artist.
