Julia Holter - Materia [Vinyl]

Julia Holter presents Materia, a captivating companion LP to her 2024 album, Something in the Room She Moves. This release delves deeper into the song "Materia," offering two distinct and compelling versions of the track. "Materia 2" is an ethereal soundscape featuring drum machines, fretless bass, and clarinet, with Holter's voice weaving alongside Jessika Kenney. "Materia 3" reimagines the original by slowing down the track from Something in the Room She Moves, highlighting its harmonic richness and emotional depth, serving as a nod to the CD era of Holter's youth.

Across its seven tracks, Materia showcases Holter's versatility as an art-pop innovator. The album includes two striking improvisations: one a self-created ensemble of drum machines and synths, the other a vocal manipulation that imbues each word with symphonic complexity. Another piece draws from a demo for "My Twin," one of the most moving tracks from Something in the Room She Moves. Materia is a testament to Holter's fluid approach to songwriting, creating a cohesive and emotionally resonant listening experience.
