Ty Segall - Chrome [CD]

In the Spring of 2025, Ty Segall felt the call to reunite his band, leading to the creation of 'Chrome'. This album delivers massive riffs, tightly arranged fuzz and distortion, and a powerful rhythmic core, all driven by the collective energy of the band: Ben Boye, Evan Burrows, Mikal Cronin, and Emmett Kelly. 'Chrome' embodies the element's qualities of being shiny, reflective, and resistant to corrosion, translating into hard-springing rock interwoven with lyrically allusive passages that explore dark, labyrinthine paths. The songs blend social phenomena with autobiographical dream imagery, delivered in head-snapping flashes that engage both hemispheres of the listener's mind. Expect twin-guitar attacks, precise drumming, and keyboard textures that range from bright to thick, all mixed with a clean, flexible, and colorful sound. Ty Segall's distinctive vocals, described as vinegar and sand, wine and grains of silver nitrate, guide the listener through the sonic landscape. The band's collaborative songwriting process, with contributions from Matt Yoka and Denée Segall on some tracks, results in a high-performing, socially aware collection of 'hot rocks'. The guitars are immaculate, evoking big waves and dark apocalyptic energy, drawing from proto-punk to grunch influences, projected from the band's mind-meld to resonate with a wider audience. Fans of Television, Blue Oyster Cult, The Adolescents, Pink Fairies, Iggy, Crazy Horse, Nirvana, PiL, Flipper, and Emotional Mugger will find much to appreciate.
